Personal care activities such as showering, dressing and toileting are the primary triggers for behavioural symptoms of dementia. The presence of these symptoms which include physical and verbal aggression and resistiveness place significant stress on caregivers who endeavour to meet the persons care needs. Understanding and effectively responding to these behaviours can be challenging for caregivers.
This workshop provides an overview of the assessment and management processes involved in understanding and responding to behavioural symptoms during personal care activities. Interactive learning methods, small group work and practice exercises will be used to explore and enhance the practical material discussed. Opportunities will be provided for networking with other attendees through sharing and discussing case studies, experiences and outcomes of strategies implemented.
